10 Things You Should Know About Senator Boy Juma Boy
Kwale county and Orange Democratic Movement Senator Boy Juma Boy died Sunday, February 12, 2017 while undergoing treatment at the Aga Khan Hospital in Nairobi.
The senator had been taken ill and admitted at a hospital in Mombasa. He was flown to Nairobi after his condition worsened and passed away while receiving treatment.
Boy Juma Boy will now be laid to rest on Monday, February 13, at his home in Vanga, Kwale county.
Here are a few things you probably had no idea about him;
1. Boy Juma Boy became the youngest MP when he succeeded his father, Juma Boy, as Matuga MP in 1983.
2. Boy senior died before the election which would have seen him vie for Kwale Central MP. He had served in Matuga since 1974.
3. Boy Juma Boy retained the Matuga seat in the 1988 and 1992 elections but lost in 1997 and 2002 and did not vie in 2007.
4. He once served as Kanu Chief Whip.
5. He was elected Kwale Senator in the March 4, 2013 general election, after garnering 60,886 votes against Chirau Mwakwere's 41,753.
6. Boy had been a loyal supporter of the Opposition and did not spare those who disrespected leader Raila Odinga.
7. He once accused Jubilee government of taking over people's land and resources.
8. Boy also opposed the extension of Base Titanium mining area to locations including Lunga Lunga, Vanga and Mafisini.
9. Boy, according to President Uhuru Kenyatta, was an astute politician who will be remembered for his immaculate use of Kiswahili.
10. The former Prime Minister mourned the senator and described him as a great orator and bold ODM soldier.
