Sossion sends warning letter to TSC, teachers' strike is on its way

A nation wide teachers' strike might be in the offing following failure by the Teachers Service Commission to address issues of concern raised by the Kenya National Union of Teachers.

In a letter sent to TSC signed by KNUT Secretary General Wilson Sossion, the teachers union outlines several demands while at the same time seeks an urgent policy meeting.

Among the outstanding issues are: the implementation schedule of the Collective Bargaining Agreement for teachers, employment of more teachers, promotion of tutors with higher qualifications among others.

The union has further warned that TSC takes the letter seriously and convene a meeting between them or matters shall escalate to other levels.

The warning comes barely a week after doctors called off their three-month strike following an agreement with the government.

Teachers last went on strike in 2015, downing tools for over 5 weeks demanding a 50-60 percent pay increase awarded to them by the court.
