HORROR after gunmen shoot dead police officer in Kayole

A police officer has became the latest victim of rampant crime in Nairobi's Eastlands.


Corporal Japheth Mwiti was on Sunday, March 19, at 2:30am attacked by gunmen in Kayole estate Nairobi.

The gunmen shot the officer several times killing him, the gang also seriously injured a female companion of the officer identified as Catherine Wairimu.

The criminals are reported to have escaped with the officer's Jericho pistol serial number 45302342 loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

The slain officer was attached to Kayole police station, police have launched a manhunt for the gunmen.

The attackers are also suspected to have been involved in the killing of a 40 year-old man named Wemba Mbakhaya and injuring Natembea Nandoli.

Mbakhaya died on the spot after being shot on the left side of the chest. Nandoli was shot twice on the left side of the neck. He is admitted in hospital in a serious condition.


Eastlands area of Nairobi has experienced increase in crime as the election season approaches.

Residents have complained of inaction by the police.

The most affected parts of Eastlands by the crime wave are; Umoja, Mathare, Eastleigh, Dandora and Kayole.
